God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. But His creation certainly is not. Change, it is said, is the only constant. Flowers bloom then wither. Babies are born then grow to adulthood. Seasons come and go, as do the years.
We just passed into a new season as well as entered a new year – a time many will make resolutions. And I pray if those resolutions are good they are kept. Alas, my experience is far more are forgotten or broken than are sustained and life-changing. Personally, I do not make resolutions, but I do invariably reflect on what worked well and not-so-well in the past year, consider prayerfully what direction I am led for the future, and plan to the best of my limited knowledge and wisdom how to work toward those goals. The future is in God’s hands, but faith is demonstrated by action on our part. We must move in the direction of God’s promises and prophecies.
One of the things that leads to our divine destiny is the ability and practice of letting go of the past. Paul told us in Philippians 3:13-14, “…one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal…” The future is so full, and God is such an abundant provider! Yet many are afraid to let go of what they have in order to attain much more. Is not trusting God’s plans and promises the real essence of faith? This is the prophecy of Leviticus 26:10. Our barns will overflow each year. But there’s no room in the barn if it’s still filled with last year’s aging harvest. Get rid of the old to make room for what God is going to do.
And what God is going to do will be absolutely amazing.
Lord, you are our source of all good things, and we trust You completely to finish what you have begun, to fulfill each and every promise and prophecy. Help us to act out our faith by letting go of the things of old to grasp the future. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
