The world grows darker as the day of the Lord approaches. Satan will snare as many as possible in his goal to steal, kill, and destroy before the fullness of time is complete. Isaiah 8:22 informs us the devil’s wicked followers will look to the earth, and see trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they will be driven into darkness. Thank you, Lord, though we are in this fallen world, we are not of it, but instead a part of Your righteous kingdom. That we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, saints walking in marvelous light, redeemed by the precious blood of our Savior.
We trust in God to protect and deliver us from all wickedness surrounding us. He is our shield, our fortress, our healer, and our king. In Him, we put our complete trust. And that trust is vocalized in our unceasing prayers to Him. We can and must pray from our hearts to heaven, but I also love the following old Irish prayer called St. Patrick’s Breastplate, a call for protection: “Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.”
Indeed, Christ is our breastplate, the unassailable armor that protects us against all evil. We pray steadfast prayers that recognize Him as our mighty bastion who will never falter or fall. His greatness will never be overtaken. And the prayers of the righteous availeth much. But prayers avail only when they’re prayed. So put on your armor, wield your sword, and pray unceasingly.
Thank You, God, that You hear our every prayer and provide for us the protection from the enemy we so desperately need. Thank you that You overcome all evil and we can have unwavering faith in your triumphant victory. To You be the honor and the glory forever. Amen.
