It seems appropriate since we are in the month of worldly love we turn attention to the perfect love of God. The Song of Solomon, that Song of Songs, depicts the relationship between a groom and his beloved bride, a shadow of the relationship Jesus has with His church and every individual within.
While we perhaps see ourselves as not nearly as beautiful as we would desire, when we are filtered through the perfection of Christ’s work of redemption we are perceived as the divine and wonderfully-made creation the Father intended. He does not see our flaws, instead seeing us as exquisitely flawless. The most sparkling gem pales in comparison to the view seen by our wonderful Lord.
How can respond with anything but the greatest love for a suitor lifting us to the level only He can truly hold? His perfection is mirrored in us. Not because we earned it, but because He lovingly gave it to his beloved bride.
As Third Day vocalizes so wonderfully, “You are beautiful my sweet, sweet song”. Jesus is indeed the sweetest of songs and the most loving of bridegrooms. He is the song of songs, the greatest song ever sung.
As we celebrate Valentine’s Day with our spouses, sweethearts, children, and friends, be sure to not forsake our ultimate Valentine, the one who gave everything for us and everything to us. A box of chocolates and a bouquet of roses may be terrific for our earthly intimates, but we need to offer something far more substantial to God. Give Him all of you, as he gave all to us.
My sweet, sweet Valentine, you are altogether beautiful. Beautiful in every way.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for being the perfect groom, and seeing far beyond our imperfections. We pledge our complete love and loyalty to You now and forevermore. Amen.
