Persevering Massive Pestilence

Pestilence is an epidemic of a serious disease, exactly what is happening across the world. The future, while always thus, is “slap-us-in-the-face” unknown. When will it end? How many will become sick? How many—and who—will perish?

No one but God knows the answers to these questions yet. Experts are finding their knowledge lacking. Scripture teaches, “God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; (1Co 1:27 ESV). A small virus, invisible to our eyes, has brought down the strong and proven how little the most intelligent really know. The world is humbled. Yet we will ultimately triumph.

King Jehoshaphat used a perfect strategy against the Moabites, Ammonites, and some Meunites that we can still incorporate today. We stand before God and cry out in prayer knowing He will hear and save us. “Listen… Thus says the LORD to you, ‘Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s. (2Ch 20:15 ESV). No multitude of microbes, no horde of infection is mightier than the Lord of Hosts. And He is mighty to save.

I urge you to read 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 and meditate on how it applies in this circumstance. I also remind you during this time of separation that Jesus spent considerable time in solitude praying to our Father, a model that should permeate our own walk. For those who love God, He ultimately uses everything for the good of those called according to His purpose. Let’s make absolutely sure we are taking actions that glorify God, we are fighting the good fight of faith, and each day we are remade closer in the image of Christ.

Lord, I thank you that in the most perilous of times You are ever faithful and loving. I thank You for the blessings we will see unfold as You triumph over our adversary and lift us higher to Your holy mountain.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
