The Fake vs. Real News

Following President Trump’s assertions, it seems “fake news” has become part of our everyday discussions. Let me clarify for you if you haven’t already figured it out: All news coverage is fake. At least to a degree. No more “Just the facts, ma’am.” Media companies (in the core business of entertainment) make money by selling advertising. The more eyeballs viewing the advertising, the more valuable the time. So each company tries maximizing viewership by slanting their reporting with a bias toward their channel’s demographic. If you observe reporting of the same story on various networks you will see each is partially propaganda seeking to advance an agenda embraced by those most likely to watch.

We live in a world of contrasting reports. Satan and the world system give their diverse and false reports to serve the enemy’s desired ends. But God’s report on the good news of the Gospel is forever true. Whose report do you believe? The reports of death, sickness, violence, and ruin? Or the reports of life, healing, protection, and salvation?

We are a blessed people and the enemy will try his best to rob us of those blessings by using deceit and guile to take away our peace and demolish our faith. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I [Jesus] came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (John 10:10).

In these trying times, use discernment to “try the spirits” and know the source of the words bombarding us all. Close out the lies and hold fast to the truth given us in scripture. God’s report is faithful and true. And No weapon formed against you shall prosper, (Isa 54:17a). Sling the devil’s darts right back at him.

Lord, Your Word is forever settled in heaven, and it is Your report I believe. Form within me the mind of Christ that I may discern truth in every circumstance and walk in the wisdom You so freely give. Amen.
