Three Things We Live By

We should petition daily three things in prayer: Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge. God bestowed these gifts uniquely upon human creation to govern and bless  our lives. Animals are not endowed with these gracious favors, but we are created in His divine image, created to be creators, shaping raw materials of the world into things useful and profitable by the providence of God.

Wisdom can be thought of as ingenuity, insight, or ability. It is that which provides recognition of the rightness and value of something to embrace—or, conversely, its sinfulness and harm to avoid.

Understanding is comprehension, interpretation, skill in dealing with or handling something. Wisdom allows us to build the house; understanding keeps it maintained.

Knowledge is acquaintance with facts, truths, and principals. It is familiarity and apprehension of circumstances and how to properly and profitably arrange your responses for greatest benefit. Knowledge supplies the house with treasure.

Together these form the basis of blessings and prosperity, the environment in which God wants us to live our lives.  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jer 29:11 NIV). We have dominion over the earth and gifts with which to achieve it. To be in line with God’s will, we must do so. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Gen 1:28 ESV).

Lord, grant me wisdom, understanding, and knowledge that I may live according to Your perfect will and accomplish those things You have created me for and called me to do for Your eternal glory.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
