Godly Among the Ungodly

The world is desperately wicked, and that wickedness is named as righteousness, fulfilling Isaiah 5:20 in which woe is judged upon those who call evil good and good evil. Darkness is substituted for light and bitter for sweet. The first sin was pride and selfishness, and the fallen children continued walking that path.

But brethren, thank our Lord we are not part of that tribe, but instead, a peculiar people who have been saved from darkness and bathed in heaven’s radiant light. We are redeemed and justified. Sanctification is at work in our lives as we are trained to spurn the evil of this world and embrace holiness. No matter the temptations and ugliness of the present age, we have a Lord and Savior far greater. We have a Father who gives us the very best and has sent His Holy Spirit to counsel and comfort us.

Renouncing ungodliness, we are waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:13-14)

The world may indeed be ugly and sinful, but it has been that way since the serpent tempted with forbidden fruit. The world still craves that which is taboo. But within us dwells a greater spirit, a new creation made in the image of Christ. No longer do we wear the filthy rags of our sinful nature, but instead we are adorned in white raiment that we do not deserve but have been gifted with richly by a benevolent benefactor who gives without restraint and with love.

People of God, set aside all things hindering your walk and embrace the training of scripture and Spirit, living as we are called to live.

Lord, thank You for Your instruction during this time of darkness. Your radiant light shines brightly, illuminating our paths through this shadowed valley, pushing aside all things not in your will. Thank you for Your hope. Amen
