Worship Wins the War

Before Jehoshaphat battled the “great multitude” of Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites in the wilderness of Tekoa, the first thing he did was fast and pray. I urge you to meditate on his prayer in 2 Chronicles 20:6-12. As the text continues, we are reminded the battle is not ours, but the Lord’s. We do not need to fight but must stand firm, holding our position unafraid, bearing witness to God’s salvation.

In what makes little worldly sense (but incredible spiritual sense) the king sent worshipers marching before the army, singing praises to the God of Heaven and Earth. The opposing troops were routed, ambushed by the Lord, and the Children of Israel reaped a great spoil – so many goods, clothing, and precious things they were unable to carry it all after three days of collecting.

There is another battle waging in full force today. And as we are told in Ephesians 6:12, “…we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

This spiritual war is escalating as we tread closer to the end times. Christianity and even worldly morality are under constant attack by the spirit of evil working through those seeking to displace virtue with wickedness and to supplant holiness with perversion.

We must stand firm in our faith, knowing God has already won this war and every battle. Let us praise him in song, in the completeness of spirit and truth, as we watch God’s mighty hand stretch forth and vanquish the malevolent.

Lord, help us stand in complete faith of Your deliverance and Your perfect plan for our salvation as we worship and praise You with the songs of our battle cry. Show us Your mighty hand, O Lord. We are weak in our flesh but triumphant in Your spirit that fills us with Your hope. To You be all the praise and all the glory. Amen.
