The Best Christmas Dinner

Scripture speaks to us in so many layers of meaning and symbolism if one carefully dissects the text – studying, meditating, and praying for understanding. Have you considered the significance of our Lord being placed in the manger when he was born? Not only for expediency was it used as a crib, but it also symbolized His role on earth.

A manger is a feeding trough (which by the way is the original meaning of “crib” as well). It is the source of nourishment for those who are cared for by their provider and master.

Jesus, when accepted as our Savior, is the master and provider of our life. “For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, (John 6:33-35a).

Scripture teaches spiritual and natural things mirrors one another. Jesus shows us the concept of His being our spiritual nourishment and sustenance as well as providing for our physical needs when he fed the 5,000 as recorded in Matthew 14:13-21.

When celebrating the birth of Christ, we celebrate the complete satisfaction of every need of our body and soul. We shall hunger and thirst no more. Celebrate with Him from birth to marriage and beyond the finest Christmas meal ever prepared and freely given, served in a lowly manger…

Lord, as we celebrate your birth,  we thank you for being the eternal bread from heaven that nourishes us completely. We are so thankful you came to earth and walked among us because you loved us so. You are the most wonderful sustenance we could ever hope for or imagine.
             Jesus, we love You, Amen.
